The Importance of Self Love
As Valentine's Day is approaching, I want to talk a little bit (or a lot) about the importance of self love.
Life is full of responsibilities, obligations, tasks, meetings, events, and goals. It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and grind when there is so much on your plate. However, if you don't make time for yourself in the midst of the madness, eventually, you will burn out.
I never believed this while studying for my doctorate degree in graduate school, or even after becoming a mom. I thought I could do it all and never have to take a break. I neglected my physical and mental health and eventually, it led me to become a very irritable and resentful person that I did not recognize. It made me angry and bitter towards the people I love instead of being the happy and helpful professional, mom and wife I always strived to be.
If you want to be the best you can be, take time for yourself. Check in with yourself and give yourself the tools you need to continue on and lead a happy and healthy life. Self love and self care can lead to less anxiety, more energy, more motivation, better sleep, better mental health, better physical health, and the self-esteem you need to say no to the things that do not coincide with your life goals, dreams and aspirations.
Yes, if I really try hard I can do everything on my to-do list day after day, but that is not how life is meant to be lived. Life should be a happy balance of work and play. Set your goals, and go after them, but make sure taking care of yourself is on that list. Whether it is an evening out with friends, a nice massage, a walk on the beach or even sitting down for a nice cup of green tea, set aside some time for yourself each day in order to have the energy and motivation to do all the other things on your list.
Practicing self love may seem selfish to some, like it once did to me before I understood the importance of it, but it is a necessity in life. As we always say here at Serum Doctor, love yourself from head to toe, you deserve it.
